Wedding Hair at Villa Woodbine, Coconut Grove: Villa Garden Styling

Real weddings at Villa Woodbine are some of my favorite mornings, because the property does half the work. A 1930s Mediterranean villa in Coconut Grove, with a courtyard, fountains, banyan trees, and light that comes through in slices.

The hair question here is specific: how do you style for a villa that is romantic, slightly overgrown, and photographed constantly? The answer is softness with structure. A loose chignon with a face-framing piece. Waves set properly and brushed out. A low bun with a flower or a single pin. What does not work is anything tightly formal; the villa is too alive for that.

Grove humidity is genuinely heavy. Banyan trees hold moisture and the courtyard traps air, so a style built for a Palm Beach ballroom will not necessarily hold in that garden. I use a humidity-blocking prep, set the front deliberately, and finish light.

The walk is part of the photography. From the getting-ready room to the courtyard is a series of small beautiful moments, and a bride with hair that moves well in those frames gets images that feel cinematic. Braided elements and half-up shapes photograph beautifully in that movement.

Timeline notes: getting ready usually happens at a Grove hotel or a nearby rental. I build the drive from Palm Beach County in, and I would always rather arrive early. Parties here tend to run five to eight services, with a second artist at seven or more.
