Tequesta is the last town before the county line, and it has a character all its own: live oaks, a small village center, and the Loxahatchee River winding through everything. Weddings here are usually at a club on the river or a home under the trees, and both feel a world away from the island.
River weddings are humid in a specific way. Moving fresh water plus heavy tree cover means the air stays wet even after the ocean breeze has dried everything else. A ceremony at five in Tequesta in October can feel more humid than the same hour in Palm Beach, which surprises brides who planned for the coast.
The tree canopy is the other factor. Oak shade is beautiful and it is also dark, which means photographs at the ceremony need a flash, which means the hair details get flattened. Under canopy light I build a shape with more contrast: a defined part, a clear division between the smooth crown and the textured back, and higher placement so the silhouette reads against a dark background.
Clubs I work in the area include Tequesta Country Club and the various riverfront properties around Jupiter Hills. All are comfortable on space, none are large on getting-ready rooms, so I plan the chair order in advance.
One practical detail. Tequesta is a forty-five-minute drive from Palm Beach and the route on US-1 in season can surprise you. I build an extra twenty minutes into the schedule and I leave earlier than I think I need to. An artist arriving calm is worth more than an artist arriving on time and rattled.
