The T3 single-pass flat iron is the one tool we replace without complaint, because on bridal hair nothing else produces a smooth line so quickly. But how you use it matters more than which one you buy, and most brides are using theirs wrong.
Start with the temperature. For fine or compromised hair, 300 to 320 degrees. For normal to medium, 340. For coarse or resistant, no more than 380. Anything above that is not faster, it is damage with better marketing. A single pass at a lower heat beats three passes at a higher one in both smoothness and hair health.
Section properly. Sections larger than an inch produce uneven heat and require a second pass, which is where the damage happens. This is the single most common mistake, and it is free to fix.
Move slowly and evenly. Speed is the enemy. A slow pass with light tension smooths the cuticle; a fast pass just makes it temporarily flat.
Use it on dry hair only. Damp hair under a flat iron is a steam burn waiting to happen, and it produces that brittle, puffy finish brides complain about.
Finish with a light shine product on the ends, not the mid-lengths. Flat-ironed hair reflects light poorly if it is coated, and beautifully if it is clean.
