Palm Beach weddings have a palette, and it is not the one brides bring me from the internet. The island's aesthetic is built on light, stone, and water, and hair that answers that palette photographs differently than hair styled for a moody venue.
Start with color temperature. Island light is warm at golden hour and very bright at midday, and everything from the buildings to the sand is pale. Hair with a clean, cool-neutral tone reads elegant against that palette. Hair with strong warm brassiness competes with the light rather than sitting in it, which is why I talk about brass-free blonde and cool brunette glosses with brides marrying on the island.
Next, texture. Palm Beach light is directional and it reveals texture, which is a gift if your hair has shape and a problem if it is flat. A set with visible movement photographs as more interesting than a smooth finish in this light, which is the opposite of what most brides assume about formal venues.
Then, finish. Satin rather than gloss. The island is bright all day, and gloss reads as a hot spot in a photograph while satin reads as health. That single switch makes brides look more expensive in island light.
Finally, silhouette. The best island bridal images have a clean shape against a pale background, because that is what the eye can read at a distance. Softness, yes, but with a clear shape.
