Sewall's Point is a peninsula between two rivers and Hutchinson Island is a barrier island twenty minutes north, and together they form a stretch of Martin County that almost never appears on a bridal mood board. Which is exactly why it photographs so well.
Sewall's Point properties sit on high ground with wide river views. Most weddings there are at homes, which means I am working in a living room with whatever outlets the host remembered. I bring my own lighting, a folding table, and a power strip. Fifteen years in, the power strip has saved more mornings than any product.
Hutchinson Island is the opposite: ocean on one side, Indian River on the other, and wind that never stops. A ceremony at the Elliott Museum or on one of the oceanfront stretches will have a real breeze at four in the afternoon. I build the crown with more internal structure than I would inland, and I always finish the underside of an updo, because island wind comes from below as often as above.
The humidity here runs a few points higher than the island of Palm Beach, and the salt is closer. Matte finish, no gloss, and a film-forming spray rather than a flexible one.
Travel is the honest part. Sewall's Point is about fifty minutes from Palm Beach and Hutchinson Island closer to an hour. I build it into the schedule rather than surprising anyone later, and I leave early because US-1 in season is not a predictable road.
