Sailfish Point is the quietest stretch of oceanfront real estate in Martin County. At the southern tip of Hutchinson Island, the club looks out to the St. Lucie Inlet on one side and the Atlantic on the other, and the wind there has nothing at all to slow it down.
What the venue asks of hair: wind tolerance above everything. An inlet-tip ceremony is beautiful and breezy, and hair that has been styled for a still room will be moving in every frame. I build these mornings around a braided or twisted base under the finished shape so there is something structural holding the outline when the breeze lifts the surface.
What reads beautifully there: a low, sweeping chignon, a braided crown, a half-up with the front section swept cleanly back. Styles that rely on volume sitting high on the head are the ones that suffer in that wind.
Timeline notes: Sailfish Point is gated and the drive from Palm Beach or Stuart adds real time. When I am working a Sailfish Point morning I plan arrival earlier than the first appointment needs, because the gate process on a Saturday is not fast. Most brides get ready on-site or at home in Stuart, Sewall's Point, or Jensen Beach.
The light on the inlet side is bright and flat by mid-morning, which is unforgiving of texture that has been sprayed too heavily. A light hand with finishing products photographs better there than a strong one.
One more thing: Jewel Island and the beach club facilities mean the party often moves between locations during the morning. I build in a ten-minute travel buffer between the getting-ready space and the ceremony site, which sounds small and is not.
