Palm Beach season officially begins when the planes start landing, and with it comes a calendar of galas that runs from November through April. If you are chairing an event, the hair question arrives earlier than you think.
Start with the dress and the neckline, because that decides the shape. A gown with a high neck or a dramatic back wants hair up and clean, with a clear line at the nape. A strapless or off-shoulder gown wants either a soft updo or a deep side part with waves, so the shoulder line stays visible.
Then the room. A ballroom at the Breakers is formal, warm, and enormous, and hair needs enough structure to read at a distance. A tent on the lake is more intimate and forgiving of softness. A private home is the most forgiving of all.
Then time. Galas involve a long evening: cocktails at seven, dinner at eight, dancing at ten. Styles that hold through all of it share one quality, which is a real base. I build with tension and set rather than with heavy spray, so hair looks the same at midnight as at six.
Group bookings are common for gala chairs and their committees. Private events are $225 per person per service, and a house appointment for four to eight people can be scheduled in the afternoon so everyone arrives together and calm.
Season dates go quickly, especially December and February. Inquire with your event date and see group and event pricing in the investment guide.
