Wedding Hair at the Palm Beach Country Club: The Art of Restraint

The Palm Beach Country Club is the quietest of the island's grand addresses. No marquee, no procession of outside vendors, no theatrical arrival. Just a low building on the north end, a golf course that looks hand-painted, and a membership that values composure above all else. Weddings here are usually small, usually family-heavy, and always beautifully dressed.

That setting asks for restraint with craft behind it. A smooth, low chignon with a clean center part. A soft twist gathered at the nape with a little height at the crown. A classic bob blown out with body and pinned at one side. The style should look like it took fifteen minutes and should hold for fourteen hours, which is the joke we tell every bride while we spend forty minutes on the foundation.

Because the club is intimate, the morning is intimate too. Most weddings here involve the bride, a mother, a sister or two, and a handful of close friends. Four to six hair services fits comfortably into one artist's morning. Seven or more and we bring a second artist, which for a small wedding usually means nobody waits and the bride is never rushed at the end.

The room matters more than brides expect. Older clubhouses have warm lighting and low ceilings, which softens fine texture and flattens matte finishes. We build a little extra shine into the surface and test the finished look under the actual lamps, not just daylight. A bride who has been checked in both lights walks out confident.

Weather on the north end of the island is gentler than the south, but the golf course generates its own breeze. We anchor the base, keep the veil comb short-toothed, and skip any style that needs a mirror to maintain.
