May is the most requested wedding month in Palm Beach County and also the one brides underestimate. It is not summer yet, but it is not April either, and the difference shows up at four in the afternoon.
What May actually does. Temperatures in the high eighties, humidity climbing through the month, and the rainy season arriving by late May with afternoon storms on a schedule. Early May is a different wedding than Memorial Day weekend.
For an outdoor ceremony, my advice is a time, not a style. Before two o'clock in early May, before noon by the end of the month. If you cannot move the time, move the ceremony into shade, because the difference between full sun and a covered terrace at three in May is enormous.
For hair, May is where I start building for humidity rather than hoping. Prep with a smoothing product and let it settle for two weeks. Set the shape with heat and cool it completely. Choose a style that has a little texture, since texture holds better than glassy smooth hair in rising humidity.
The good news: May light is beautiful. Longer days, softer sun than June, and golden hour lands generously.
One practical note. If your date is late May, have a rain plan that includes hair, not just a tent. A ceremony moved indoors at the last minute changes how much time we need, and I build in slack for exactly that.
