K-Tip Extensions: Five Questions, Answered Honestly

Damage, strand count, and updos

November 23, 2026

K-tip extensions get asked about more than any other service, and the questions are always the same five. Here they are, answered without sales language.

Do they damage my hair? Properly installed and properly maintained, no. Damage comes from bonds applied too close to the scalp, from brushing at the bond, and from leaving them in too long. Every eight to ten weeks they need to be moved up, and that is not optional.

How many strands do I need? It depends on density, not length. A bride adding volume for an updo might need 100 to 150 strands. A bride adding length and volume might need 200 or more. We assess at consultation, and we would rather quote you right than quote you low.

Will they show? Not if the color match is done correctly. We match mid-shaft in daylight and often blend two tones for highlighted hair. The visible bond problem comes from a single flat color, which is the fastest way to look like you are wearing extensions.

Can I wear an updo? Yes, and this is where K-tips genuinely outperform tape-ins. Strand-by-strand application moves like natural hair, so a chignon or pony sits correctly.

How long do they last? Six to nine months for the hair itself, with moves every eight to ten weeks. The cost question is answered honestly at consultation, and you can read more at majesticextensions.com.
