Upper Keys Wedding Hair: Key Largo & Islamorada, Sail-Into-the-Sunset Styling

The Upper Keys are the far edge of my territory and worth every mile — Key Largo's waterfront resorts, Islamorada's sandbar receptions, ceremonies that leave from a dock and happen on the deck of a boat as the sun goes down. Island weddings are their own genre, and after fifteen years of Florida styling, I can tell you the Keys are the most honest test a style will ever take.

Humidity plus salt plus motion. Island air is the trifecta, and the styles that win are the ones built with structure underneath: waved updos, braided-back chignons, ponytails with extension density and grip at the hairline. Loose hair on a boat has a fifty-fifty relationship with the wind — we either commit to control or commit to movement, never drift between them.

Boat ceremonies, the Keys' signature: if your ceremony involves leaving a dock, the style gets built for a moving deck and salt spray. Low and secured always wins over long and loose — and the photographs, golden-hour backlit on the water, are the reason brides choose this. Getting ready is island-paced: resort suites, open windows, the smell of the water. We finish brides with time to feel unhurried, because the island clock is the real clock. Party styling on location is $225 per service, and small islands mean small parties — five to eight people is typical, and those mornings are my favorite kind.
