Just Engaged? Do These Things First, In This Order

Venue, then artist, then hair health. The style can wait.

November 15, 2026

Every year around Thanksgiving my inbox fills up with brides who just got engaged, which is why the trade calls it engagement season. Here is what to do in the first three weeks, in order, without panicking.

Week one: decide the date range, not the date. Venue availability will decide the actual Saturday. Everything downstream depends on that, including your hair artist, and most brides do this backwards.

Week one, part two: post the ring, tell your people, and do nothing else. There is no advantage to booking vendors in the first seventy-two hours except on the venue itself.

Week two: book the venue. Then, the same week, book the hair and makeup. Good artists in Palm Beach County are booked twelve to eighteen months out for spring Saturdays. The venue and the artist are the two things you cannot substitute later.

Week three: start the hair health clock. This is the part nobody tells you. Your hair on the wedding day is the result of what you do starting now, not the week of. That means a trim to remove damage, a gloss to add shine, and a decision about extensions if you want them, because installs need a lead time and a consultation.

What you do not need in the first three weeks: a hairstyle decision. That comes at the preview, six to nine months out, with your dress and your veil and the actual venue in mind. Pinning a style in week three is how brides end up with something that does not suit the room.

One more thing. If you are getting engaged in December and marrying the following fall, you have more time than you think. If you are marrying the following spring, you have less. The difference is about six weeks of breathing room, and it is worth knowing which one you are in.

Just engaged? Inquire once you have a date range and I will tell you what is open. Rates are on the investment page.
