A Real Jupiter Wedding Morning, Broken Down by Service

Let me describe a Saturday I had in Jupiter last spring. Ceremony at four. Bride wanted her grandmother's vintage brooch in her hair, her mother wanted a blowout, three bridesmaids, and the flower girl was two and needed to be handled last, ideally with a snack involved.

That morning worked because of a plan made weeks earlier, not because of anything heroic in the moment. Here is what that plan looked like.

The night before, everyone washed their hair and dried it roughly, no flat irons. Freshly washer-styled hair is the enemy of hold, and it also doubles the time each service takes. I sent a text with that instruction to the whole party.

On the day, I started with the two services that need the most time. Bridesmaids with thick hair or long hair go first, not last. The bride goes in the middle, never at the end, so she is not the one waiting while everyone else is finished and nervous.

Grandmother's brooch went in before the veil, and I tested the weight distribution. A heavy brooch needs backing or it drags an updo down by cocktail hour.

Mothers go early and are photographed first, usually because the photographer wants family frames before the ceremony.

The flower girl was last, with a lollipop. She sat still for eleven minutes. It was the best eleven minutes of the day.
