July conditions: temperatures in the low nineties, humidity that sits at seventy percent or higher, and a reliable afternoon thunderstorm that can arrive anywhere between two and six. Your hair will be exposed to all three.
The right styles: lifted updos, braided crowns, high-texture buns, anything that keeps the neck clear and the front off your forehead. Hair worn down is possible but difficult, and if you want it, plan for a shorter portrait window and a set built specifically for heat.
Product strategy changes. Less oil at the root, more humidity blocking, and a finishing routine that favors structure. I also skip heavy creams entirely in July, because they surface at the hairline when it is ninety degrees.
Timeline shifts. July weddings should be early or late. A four o'clock ceremony with portraits at five-thirty is the sweet spot, and it also means the morning does not have to start at six. If your ceremony is at two, plan an indoor portrait location and a very cool getting-ready room.
The storm contingency. Have a described plan for hair if portraits move indoors: what gets repinned, what product goes back in, and who does it. With trailing hours, that person can be me.
