Hutchinson Island is the long barrier strip between Jensen Beach and Fort Pierce, and it holds a handful of wedding venues with an Atlantic view that most couples never consider. I have styled two weddings there and both had the same quality: a genuine sense of being away, without a flight.
The island is narrow. That means ocean on one side, Indian River on the other, and wind that has no obstacle between you and it. Hair here needs real structure. Soft, weightless styles will be rearranged by the time you finish your vows.
My approach for an exposed beach ceremony is an updo with a secure base and a deliberately soft surface: the movement reads romantic, everything holds. Pins at the hairline, anchoring underneath, no long loose strands.
Light is the reward. Late afternoon on Hutchinson is genuinely spectacular, and if your ceremony is at five in the spring, the golden hour lands during portraits rather than during dinner.
Getting ready on the island is usually a rental or a small resort, so send me room photos. Bright light and one clear wall are enough.
