How Many Hair Artists Do I Need for My Wedding Morning?

Almost every bride asks this in the first five minutes of our call, usually phrased as a worry rather than a question. So let me answer it plainly, because the number changes how your whole morning is built.

One artist styles one person at a time. That is not a staffing limitation, it is the job. Hair is sculptural and hands-on, and nobody credible works two heads at once. So the math is simple: every person in the chair is thirty to forty-five minutes for hair, the same for makeup, and the bride is a full hour including the veil and final check.

Our rule of thumb: up to six hair services, one artist is fine. Seven or more, and we automatically add a second hair artist. That threshold is not arbitrary. At seven, a single artist is looking at five or more hours of chair time before the bride even sits down, which either means starting at five in the morning or rushing the last two people. Neither is what you are paying for.

Makeup runs in parallel with its own artist, so a party of eight with hair and makeup can be two hair artists and two makeup artists working a room in the time four would take one person alone. That is the difference between a calm lunch and a scramble that everyone photographs.

Two things brides get wrong here. First, they forget the mothers and grandmothers, who need their own twenty-five minutes each. Second, they count people who are "just getting a quick blowout" as though that is not a service. It is. It is on the clock.
