Highland Beach is a two-mile strip of town between Boca Raton and Delray Beach, with the Intracoastal on one side and the ocean on the other. There is no downtown, no commercial strip worth naming, and almost nothing that is not a residence or a small condo building. It is one of the quietest places in Palm Beach County to get married.
What the setting asks of hair: quiet luxury with a real base. Weddings here happen in private homes, at the small resort properties, and at the town's beach access. The mood is understated, so hair should be too: soft brushed-out waves, a low chignon, a loose bun with a beautiful pin. Nothing needs to be dramatic, and drama would look out of place.
The water on both sides is the technical issue. Highland Beach is a barrier strip, which means the air is genuinely heavy and the ocean breeze is a constant. Styles need a humidity base, and the front must be placed deliberately, or the softness that looks beautiful in the suite will be gone by the ceremony.
Local convenience is the secret advantage. With a private home wedding, the getting-ready room is the master bedroom, the light is whatever it is, and there is no load-in. Those mornings are the calmest I have. Allow for a real walk-through in advance, especially for beach access.
