Hair porosity is the least romantic topic in bridal hair and the one that explains the most. If your hair repels water, absorbs product unevenly, or dries at wildly different speeds, you have a porosity story, and it changes how we build your style.
Low porosity hair has a tight cuticle. Water beads on it, conditioner sits on top, and heat styling takes longer because moisture is trapped inside. It also holds a style beautifully once set, because the cuticle is smooth. If this is you, the fix is heat and patience, not more product. A light steam treatment opens the cuticle enough to accept moisture.
High porosity hair has a lifted cuticle, usually from color, heat, or sun. It absorbs everything fast and loses it just as fast. It dries quickly, frizzes quickly, and needs layers: a leave-in, then a sealing oil, then a finishing mist. In Palm Beach, high porosity hair is the most common and the most affected by salt air.
Medium porosity is the easy one. Most products work, most styles hold, and you should not overthink it.
Why it matters for a wedding: high porosity hair will drink a texturizing spray and still sag, while low porosity hair will sit stiff with too much. We test this at the preview with a simple water test, and it changes which products I put in my kit for your day.
