Brides ask me whether to do hair or makeup first, and it is the single easiest scheduling question I get. Hair first, always. Here is why, and the two exceptions.
The main reason: makeup artists need a stable head. If I am pulling, pinning, and setting hair, a makeup artist working at the same time will be fighting movement, and nobody produces their best work while someone else is rotating the client's head. Sequencing protects both.
The second reason: hair products land on faces. Setting spray, texture spray, and finishing oil all drift. If makeup is done first, I have to work around a finished face, which is slower and riskier.
The third reason: heat. Blow dryers and irons make the room warm, which makes a client flush, which affects foundation matching. Doing hair first gives the face time to settle before makeup.
The exceptions. If your makeup artist uses a setting spray that needs to dry completely and you are on a very tight timeline, they may want to do base first. And if you are doing a first look at a specific time with a photographer, sometimes reversing for one person works. Both are rare and both should be discussed a week ahead.
Standard sequence for a party of eight: one artist on hair, one on makeup, moving in a staggered pattern rather than parallel on the same person. That is the fastest safe arrangement, and it is how I run most mornings.
Pricing: Bride Experience $1,000, party hair $225 per person, bride makeup $1,000, party makeup $225 per person. See investment.
