Frizz is not one problem, it is four, and brides spend years buying the wrong product for their version of it. Here is a diagnostic, and the fix for each.
Type one: surface frizz on otherwise smooth hair. Small halo, mostly at the crown, worse in humidity. Cause: a raised cuticle from heat or brushing dry. Fix: a glossing step, a cool-shot finish, and a boar-bristle brush used sparingly and only on dry hair.
Type two: frizz at the mid-lengths and ends. Hair looks puffy rather than smooth, and products sit on top. Cause: dehydration, often from color or sun. Fix: a hydrating mask weekly, a leave-in on damp hair, and oil on the ends only.
Type three: curl pattern frizz. Defined at the root, undefined at the canopy. Cause: drying technique. Fix: a diffuser, no towel rubbing, and a curl cream applied to soaking-wet hair.
Type four: structural frizz from damage. Split ends, breakage, a rough texture that no product fixes. Cause: chemical or heat damage. Fix: a cut, a bonding treatment, and a pause on hot tools.
Most brides have a combination of one and two. That is easy. Weekly mask, damp-hair leave-in, ends sealed, no heat above 340, and a silk pillowcase. Four weeks and the difference is obvious.
