A wedding in the Florida Keys is not a beach wedding in the usual sense, and the brides who prepare for it as one end up frustrated. Here is the difference.
The Keys are a chain of small islands with water on both sides, which means the wind is more constant and the salt content in the air is higher than on the mainland. There is also less shade, more glare, and a sun that is genuinely more intense because of reflection off the water.
For hair, that means three adjustments. First, salt protection before anything else: a smoothing layer applied to damp hair, because salt pulls moisture into the cuticle all day and the style is fighting a losing battle from the first minute otherwise. Second, more structure than you think: the shapes that survive are braided, pinned, and internally supported. Third, less surface product: any oil or shine at the surface collects salt and dust and reads gritty in close photography.
Shade matters. If your ceremony is on a dock or a beach, plan the sequence so the bride is out of direct sun as long as possible, because heat is the other thing that destroys a set.
Timing is more generous than people expect. Keys weddings tend to be small, so the morning has real time in it, which is a luxury. Use it for a proper blocking prep rather than a rushed one.
If you are marrying in the Keys, tell me which island. Inquire with your dates and we will plan travel and styling together.
