A beach ceremony is the most demanding environment in bridal hair, and extensions add a second layer of things that can go wrong. The good news: keratin tip extensions handle salt water better than tape-ins or clip-ins, and with the right prep they will get you through a sunrise ceremony on the sand and a reception afterward without a single strand slipping.
Timing comes first. Install no closer than ten days before the wedding, no earlier than six weeks out. Ten days gives the bonds time to settle and gives you a wash cycle or two to learn how they behave. A fresh install the day before a beach wedding, with no adjustment period, is where problems start.
Before the ceremony: nothing on the bonds. No oil, no leave-in conditioner above mid-shaft, no sunscreen spray anywhere near the scalp. Sunscreen is the quiet enemy here. The oils in a spray sunscreen will break down a keratin bond faster than seawater will, and brides never think of it.
During: if you go in the water, rinse with fresh water as soon as you are back in a room. Salt left to dry in the hair pulls moisture out and makes the extension hair feel like straw within a day. Cool water, a sulfate-free wash, and a light conditioner from mid-shaft down.
After: do not brush wet. Section, hold at the root, detangle from the ends up. And book a bond check for the week you get home, because sand works its way in and a loose bond that goes unnoticed for three weeks becomes a mat.
Extensions run alongside everything else in your investment. Details live at majesticextensions.com.
