What a Proper Extension Removal Appointment Looks Like

If you have extensions for your wedding, the removal appointment is the one nobody plans for and everybody needs. Done well, it takes ninety minutes, your hair feels like yours again, and you can go straight to your honeymoon. Done badly, it takes four hours and you spend the next month repairing damage.

What a proper removal looks like. First, the hair comes out dry or with a dedicated removal solution, never with pulling. A k-tip bond is broken down with a professional remover and slid out. Anyone who yanks is not removing, they are extracting.

Second, the scalp gets evaluated. We look at every bond site: redness, tension marks, any slippage or matting. This is where we catch a problem before it becomes a bald spot, and it is why removal should never happen in a hotel room with a friend and a bottle of alcohol.

Third, the hair gets a genuine treatment. After weeks under bonds, the scalp is often tender and the hair shaft nearest the root is dry. A clarifying wash, a bond builder, and a light protein-free mask. No heavy conditioning for the first few days; the hair needs to find its own balance.

Fourth, a trim. Six to eight weeks of growth means the shape you had before the install is no longer the shape you have. A small trim resets it and makes the transition back to your own hair feel intentional rather than like a letdown.

Timing: if you are leaving for a honeymoon within a few days, remove before you go, not after. Salt water and sun on freshly removed bonds sites is uncomfortable in a way that will follow you around.
