Extensions: Density Matters More Than Length

The most common extension question I get from brides is about length, and I almost always redirect to density. Length is the easy part. Density is what actually creates the look.

Here is why. An extra four inches of hair does not make a chignon look substantial. Additional strands at the right placement do. A bride with fine, shoulder-length hair who adds a modest row of K-tips will look like she has a completely different head of hair, in a good way. A bride who adds extreme length without density looks like she is wearing a long, thin curtain.

So my consultation starts with three questions. What is the look you want. What does your hair do naturally. And how much maintenance can you realistically handle.

For most brides wanting a full updo, the answer is one to two rows, placed to build volume at the crown and sides, at a length close to their own hair or two inches longer. That is what makes a wedding style read luxurious. It is also the least maintenance.

Full glamour length is a real choice and I will do it, but it comes with a longer install, more careful washing, and more heat management in summer.
