Engagement photos are the best thing that can happen to your wedding hair, and most brides treat them as a separate errand. They are not. They are your audition.
Here is why. You get a professional photograph of your hair in real conditions, months before the wedding, with time to change anything you do not love. That is information you cannot buy otherwise, and it costs far less than discovering the problem in April.
So I treat engagement sessions as a preview with a camera involved. Same planning conversation: what your dress is doing, what the light will be, what the location demands. For a beach session in Palm Beach County, that means structure and shine. For a garden or town session, softer.
Engagement sessions are $500 for hair, and I will travel to the location within reason. I ask for two things: the time of day, because light is the whole game, and the vibe of the outfit, because hair should either match the register or deliberately contrast with it.
What I learn from these sessions goes straight into the wedding plan. Which side photographs better. Whether the volume reads in flash or only in daylight. Whether the texture survived the wind.
One thing I tell every couple: book your session for the season closest to your wedding month. A January session and a July wedding teach you very little about each other.
