Dew Point, Not Humidity: How Florida Weather Really Affects Hair

The forecast number that actually predicts frizz, and the threshold where styles fail.

November 24, 2026

Dew point is a better predictor of how your hair will behave than humidity percentage, and almost no bride has ever been told that. Let me explain why it matters, because it changes how I plan every outdoor Palm Beach ceremony.

Relative humidity is a ratio. Warm air can hold more moisture than cool air, so seventy percent humidity at seventy degrees is a completely different amount of water in the air than seventy percent at ninety degrees. Dew point measures the actual moisture, and it is the number that determines whether your hair is going to swell.

A practical rule: dew point under sixty-five is cooperative. Sixty-five to seventy is where fine hair starts to lift at the hairline. Above seventy, and anything styled with a soft, airy finish will lose its shape within an hour.

Which is why I check the forecast dew point for the ceremony hour, not the daily high. A September wedding at seven in the evening can be twenty degrees cooler than the afternoon and still have a dew point in the mid seventies, because the moisture has not gone anywhere.

What I change when the dew point runs high: I set the front section with more tension, I skip anything with glycerin high in the ingredient list because glycerin pulls moisture from the air by design, and I finish with a film-forming spray rather than a flexible one. Film-formers do not fully stop swelling but they slow it enough to get through a ceremony.

And I plan for the front to be touched once, not five times. One touch-up is normal. Five is a style that was never suited to the conditions.

If you want the honest read on your date, inquire and I will tell you what your month actually does to hair. The Bride Experience is $1,000, all detailed on the investment page.
