Delray Dunes is one of those clubs that quietly does everything well. A Joe Lee course, a clubhouse with a real bar, and a membership that has been there long enough to have opinions about the salad. Weddings here tend to be second-generation, which is my favorite kind.
The clubhouse ballroom is warm and slightly traditional, and it responds to hair that is finished rather than tousled. A bride in undone beach waves in that room looks like she wandered in from the pool. A bride in a smooth, structured chignon with a proper part looks like she belongs in the photographs on the wall.
Most ceremonies here are on the lawn or under a tent on the terrace. Delray Beach afternoons in the cooler months are about as good as South Florida gets, and in the summer they are genuinely hot. I plan the front section tighter for a summer date, and I always have blotting papers ready for the twenty minutes before a ceremony.
The other thing worth saying about Delray: the drive. From Palm Beach it is about twenty-five minutes down 95 or A1A, and A1A in season is not a twenty-five minute drive. I plan the arrival around the coastal route and I take 95 if there is any question.
Getting-ready space at Delray Dunes is comfortable but not enormous, so a large party needs a plan. I send a chair order two weeks out so nobody is sitting around in a robe wondering when they are up.
The Bride Experience is $1,000, party hair $225 per person, extra on-location hours $400, and a second artist joins at seven or more hair services. Party makeup is $225 per person. All on the investment page.
Inquire with your date and I will confirm availability down south.
