Cowlicks, Double Crowns, and the Things Brides Hate

Growth patterns always win. Stop fighting and start designing.

November 17, 2026

Every bride has one thing she hates about her own hair. Not a flaw exactly, just the thing her eye goes to first. Mine was my cowlick and it took me ten years to stop apologizing for it. Here is how to work with the most common ones instead of fighting them.

A cowlick at the front hairline is not a defect. It is a growth pattern, and it will win any fight you start. Stop fighting. Instead, part on the side of the cowlick rather than against it, and let the front section fall in the direction it wants. A cowlick in the direction of the part reads as natural volume. Against it, it reads as a bump you tried to flatten.

A double crown is the second most common. Two whorls at the back create a visible split when hair is pulled back tightly. The fix is to stop pulling tightly: a looser pull with backcombing underneath covers both whorls and looks intentional. For an updo, place the chignon below the crowns, not at them.

Fine, wispy edges around the face are a third. Brides try to slick them and they spring back within an hour. Instead, decide to include them. A deliberate soft edge, sprayed on a fingertip and pressed, looks like a design choice. A slicked edge that is failing looks like a slicked edge that is failing.

A widow's peak, a low hairline, a cowlick at the nape: all of them are solvable and none of them need to be hidden perfectly. The goal is a style that looks like it was designed for your head, not borrowed from someone else's.

That is genuinely the work I like best. Bring me the thing you hate about your hair at the preview, included in the Bride Experience at $1,000. All the detail is on the investment page.
