The Colony Hotel is the pinkest building in America and one of the most photographed wedding backdrops in Florida. Brides who marry there are making a very specific choice, and the hair should honor it.
The Colony's aesthetic is playful luxury: bold color, palm prints, British colonial details, a lobby that looks like a Wes Anderson film. A severe architectural updo is wrong here. So is anything fussy. What works is hair with personality: a soft, full ponytail, a bouncy shoulder-length blowout, a half-up with real volume and a velvet ribbon, a low chignon with one oversized flower.
The technical challenge is the pink. Pink walls reflect warm light onto skin and hair, which is generally flattering, but it means cool-toned ash blonde can read slightly off in photographs taken in the lobby. If your color is cool, plan to be photographed near the windows or outside in the courtyard, and mention it to your photographer.
Getting ready at The Colony is one of the better experiences in the county. The rooms are small but the light is good and the staff is used to wedding mornings. For a party of six, one artist is comfortable. For nine, bring two.
