It happens most weddings. Someone's updo collapses, or a curl set falls out entirely, or a bridesmaid's fine hair gives up under a style that was never built for it. And it usually happens forty minutes before the ceremony, when there is no time to redo it.
If it is not the bride, my rule is: solve it in three minutes and do not let it become a conversation. Here is how.
If the updo has opened up, do not attempt to rebuild it. Take the whole thing down. A low, smooth chignon can be done in four minutes on hair that is already textured from product, and it will look more intentional than a rescued bun. Twist, pin, smooth the surface, done.
If the curls have fallen, stop curling. Add texture at the root and pull it into a half-up, which uses the volume you have and hides the sections that gave up. Bridesmaids in a half-up look like a decision. Bridesmaids with half-collapsed curls look like a problem.
If the hair is too fine to hold anything, put it in a low pony with a wrapped section over the elastic. Two minutes, holds for hours, photographs cleanly.
What I carry for exactly this: three elastics, twelve pins in two lengths, a texture mist, and a small bottle of flexible spray. It lives in a pouch in my case and I have used it at nearly every large wedding I have styled.
One thing worth saying. If a bridesmaid's hair is a known risk, tell me at booking. I will build her style differently from the start rather than fixing it in the hallway. Party hair is $225 per person, and a conversation beforehand is free.
