Should You Use Your Regular Stylist for Your Wedding Hair?

This one comes up at almost every preview, and it is a good question. You love your stylist. You have been going to her for six years. Why would you possibly need someone else on the biggest hair day of your life?

Maybe you do not. If your stylist does on-location bridal work, has done it for years, and has a portfolio of real wedding mornings rather than salon blowouts, book her. Loyalty is worth something, and a familiar set of hands is a real comfort.

Here is where it goes wrong. Salon styling and wedding-morning styling are different disciplines. A salon appointment has a mirror, a hydraulic chair, a wash basin, unlimited time, and a client sitting still. A wedding morning has a hotel bed, three people waiting, a photographer shooting the room, and a strict call time. That is a different skill, and it is learned on the job.

The other issue is scope. Your stylist may not be able to bring a second artist for a party of nine, may not carry the pins and anchor products that hold a style through a Florida afternoon, and may not have a contract, a retainer, or a backup plan if she gets sick. Those are not small things on a date that cannot move.

The right answer is usually both. Keep your colorist. Keep your regular cut. Book a bridal specialist for the wedding morning, and let the two of you talk about what your hair does in humidity so nothing is a surprise.
