If you want the earring to be the story, my default is a low chignon with both sides clean and soft, plus a slight asymmetry so the face is not perfectly symmetrical and severe. If you want hair to be the story, choose a smaller earring: a stud, a small pearl, a fine hoop. Big earrings plus big hair reads busy from across a ballroom.
Then there is the practical issue nobody mentions. Heavy earrings hurt by hour four, and a bride in pain holds her neck differently, which shows in candids. If your earrings are substantial, wear them for two hours at home before the wedding. If your lobes are thin or stretched, have your jeweler fit a support disc. It is an eight-dollar fix and it saves the evening.
The other interaction is the veil. A veil combed at the crown is fine with any earring. A veil that falls low at the nape will tangle with a drop earring every time you turn your head. Comb it higher than you think you should.
