A short neck is not a problem to correct. It is a proportion to work with, and the wrong hairstyle can cost you two inches of visual length in every photograph.
The mistake is height. Brides with a short neck often choose a high, voluminous updo thinking it will draw the eye upward. It does the opposite: it puts mass directly above the shortest part of your profile and compresses the whole line from ear to shoulder.
What works is a low shape with a clean, exposed nape and a long vertical line from the jaw. A low chignon sitting below the occipital bone. A sleek low pony with the tail falling straight. A side-swept style with everything gathered low and a hard part to give a diagonal. All of them open up the neck rather than covering it.
Necklines matter as much as the hair. A high neckline plus hair down is the combination that shortens most, because there is no visual break anywhere from chin to chest. A strapless or a V-neck with hair up gives you three separate lines and reads much longer.
The other thing I do is keep the front clean. Tendrils and face-framing pieces add horizontal weight at the jaw. For a short neck I want one deliberate soft element, not a frame.
And the earring rule applies double here. A drop earring with an exposed ear adds a vertical line exactly where you want one. A stud adds nothing, and a chandelier under hair that covers it adds confusion.
