Bridal Hair and an Oily Scalp: The Three-Day Reset

Every few weeks a bride tells me her scalp gets shiny by ten in the morning and she has tried everything. Usually she has tried more washing. That is the problem, not the solution.

Here is the reset I give brides three weeks out. Wash every other day, not daily. Use a clarifying shampoo once a week, no more. Rinse cool at the end. On the wedding morning itself, I do not want freshly washed hair. Day-two hair is cooperative hair. I use a light dry shampoo at the root before I ever pick up a curling iron, then build. For a bride whose scalp runs oily, a low, smooth style with a clean part holds far better than anything brushed out and airy, because there is less surface for oil to travel.
