Brides with an oily scalp ask me this in almost apologetic tones: what do I do the morning of? It is a genuinely common situation and it has a clean answer, as long as you do not do the obvious thing.
The obvious thing is to wash your hair that morning. Do not. Freshly washed hair is slippery at the root, and on an oily scalp the oil returns within hours, which means your style slides at the crown exactly when photographs start. Day-old hair holds better, always.
So here is the plan. Wash the night before, condition from mid-length to ends only, and dry the root completely before bed. On the morning, do not rewash. Instead, use a dry shampoo at the root and let it sit for two minutes before brushing through. That absorbs surface oil and gives the blowout something to grip.
If the scalp is very oily, I also use a light texturizing spray at the root only, never the mid-lengths. Root grip plus dry shampoo is a better combination than any single product.
One more thing worth saying: oily scalp at the wedding is usually nerves and heat, not your normal hair. Almost every bride's scalp behaves differently on the day. So we plan for it and then stop worrying about it.
