The most common thing brides say in my chair is some version of I just want it to look like me. It sounds simple and it is actually the hardest brief, because it requires knowing what your own hair does well and then amplifying that instead of replacing it.
Start with your natural growth pattern. The way your hair falls when it is clean and dry is information. If it parts naturally at a slight angle, that angle is usually the most flattering part you can choose. If it has a wave at the crown, that wave is volume you can build on. Fighting the pattern is what makes bridal hair look costumed.
Then, the style you actually wear. If you wear a low pony every day, a soft chignon or a low pony with real polish will feel like you. If you always have your hair down, forcing an updo for the wedding is a risk worth taking only if you want the transformation.
Then, one elevation. Looking like yourself does not mean looking like a Tuesday. Add one thing that is more than usual: a smoother blowout, a visible set of waves, a beautiful pin, a fuller shape. One elevation reads intentional. Three read like a different person.
The last piece is honesty about what your hair cannot do. Fine hair will not hold a heavy textured braid without support. Very straight hair will not hold a soft romantic wave for ten hours without a strong set. Working with the limits is what makes the result look natural.
