This is the question I get most in the first five minutes of an inquiry call, and the honest answer has three parts.
The problem: a bride brings twelve inspiration photos from three different hair types and expects one of them to work. Then she arrives at the preview with clean, unconditioned hair, and we spend the appointment discovering that the shape she loves needs length and density she does not have.
The solution: bring three photos and one honest sentence. The photos should be of hair similar to yours: length, thickness, texture, color. The sentence should be what you actually want people to feel when they see you. "I want to look like myself" and "I want to look like a magazine" are different briefs and lead to different hair.
Then let me translate the photo into your hair. If the reference has a soft, low bun with a lot of natural volume, and your hair is fine and straight, we are either adding extensions or rebuilding the volume with technique. Both are fine. Neither is what you pictured when you liked the photo.
The second thing I ask: what is your dress neckline, and what does the venue look like? A high halter with a low chignon is a different decision from an off-shoulder gown with a soft half-up. These are the details that make a style look intentional instead of assembled.
