The problem: you are wearing a backless or low-backed dress, your hair artist plans a low chignon, and now the two are competing for the same real estate.
This is a genuinely common conflict and it gets discovered at the preview, which is late. A low chignon sits exactly where a low back begins, and instead of a clean line from neck to dress, you get a soft mass of hair resting on the gown.
The solution: decide which element is the feature. If the back of the dress is the point, the hair has to move up. A high, soft bun, a French twist ending above the nape, or a half-up with the length tucked high all solve it. If the hair is the feature, choose a dress with a higher back or a keyhole that frames the chignon.
Second, consider the veil. A low chignon plus a low veil placement plus a low back equals three competing focal points. Move one of them.
Third, if you want both, a compromise exists: a low chignon placed slightly to one side, with a clean diagonal at the nape. It reads intentional and it leaves the center back of the gown visible.
Fourth, bring the dress photo to your preview. Not the dress, the photo, from the back and the side. I have built styles from a verbal description and been wrong, and a photo ends the guessing.
The Bride Experience at $1,000 includes the preview where we solve this properly. Details are on the investment page. Inquire and send me your dress photos.
