Everyone warns brides about rain. Almost nobody warns them about wind, which is the more common and more destructive problem in South Florida.
Wind does three things to a hairstyle. It removes surface definition, it relocates the pieces you carefully placed around your face, and it works a veil loose from its comb. The result looks less like a ruined style and more like a style that was never finished.
The venue-specific reality. Oceanfront and Intracoastal venues get constant wind. Golf courses and gardens get gusts and funnels around buildings. Tents create their own drafts. Courtyards are the calmest outdoor spaces, which is why I love them for brides who want a softer style.
How I build for it. Strong internal anchoring at the crown and temples, pins placed in opposing directions so nothing can rotate, and a front section that is placed to fall a specific way in air rather than to look perfect in a mirror. Then a finish that holds surface without shellacking, because lacquer plus wind equals visible cracks.
The veil conversation. A cathedral veil in real wind needs either a very secure attachment or a plan to remove it after the ceremony. I rehearse the removal at every preview for outdoor weddings.
Ask your planner about the venue's wind at your ceremony time, which depends on the building's orientation. That single fact changes the style more than the inspiration photo does.
