Wedding Hair at Bear Lakes: West Palm Beach Lawn to Ballroom

Bear Lakes is a West Palm Beach club with a particular advantage for brides: it is five minutes from the island but does not feel like it. Two courses, a clubhouse with long views, and a ballroom that handles a real dance floor.

What the venue asks of hair: adaptable. Bear Lakes weddings often span a lawn ceremony and a ballroom reception, which means the style has to look right in daylight and under chandeliers. I favor shapes that hold up under both: a chignon with a soft front, waves with real set, a half-up that reads romantic from the front and structural from the back.

The light: the clubhouse windows face the course from the west, which means golden hour portraits are extraordinary and slightly backlit. I do the final smoothing pass right before the first look, not twenty minutes earlier.

Timeline notes: the location is a gift. Brides can get ready at home on the island, at a hotel downtown, or on-site, and any of those work. The drive is short enough that I can build a generous timeline without worrying about traffic.

Headcount: seven or more hair services triggers a second artist. Bear Lakes weddings are often eight to twelve, so we usually have two artists and a clear schedule with the bride finishing last.

One local note for west-side brides: if you are getting ready in West Palm Beach proper rather than on the island, the water supply is different and often harder. Wash the night before in filtered water and use a chelating wash in the two weeks before your date.
