The most common pre-wedding panic I field is the bang question, and it arrives about eight weeks out, usually phrased as should I grow them out or cut them. Here is how I actually answer it.
If you already have bangs and you love them, keep them. Trim four weeks out, not two, and not the week of. Bangs that were cut four weeks ago have softened just enough to sit beautifully and photograph without a hard line.
If you have been growing them out and you are eight weeks from the wedding, do not cut. Grown-out fringe is one of the most useful assets in bridal hair, because it is short enough to soften a style and long enough to pin back if you want a clean silhouette. I use that length constantly: a soft sweep, a piece framing the cheek, a tucked side detail.
If your bangs are at an awkward middle length in wedding week, do not trim them yourself. Pin them into the style. Every bride who has taken scissors to her own fringe three days before a wedding has regretted it, and the repair is never invisible.
The one exception is a bride with bangs who wants a completely sleek look. In that case we plan a full pin-back and you leave the fringe alone entirely.
For brides with a cowlick in the fringe, that is a styling problem not a cutting problem. I set it with heat in the opposite direction and let it cool before placing it.
Want your fringe situation sorted? inquire. The Bride Experience is $1,000 and includes your preview, where we do exactly this.
