The Addison in Boca Raton is one of the most distinctive wedding venues in South Florida: a 1920s Mediterranean compound with courtyards, fountains, banyan trees, and a scale that makes a wedding feel like a garden party that happens to be extremely well catered.

What the venue asks of hair: garden formality. The architecture is romantic and slightly theatrical, and hair should match that register without competing. Soft waves with a clean part, a loose chignon with a beautiful comb, a half-up with real crown volume, all of these fit. A tightly structured updo reads stiff against fountains and banyans; completely undone hair reads careless.

Banyan shade and courtyard light are the photography story. The light under those trees is dappled and green-tinted, which is beautiful and also flattens contrast. Hair with visible shape and a little definition photographs far better in dappled light than a soft mass.
